Palliative care
Palliative care begins where there is a shift from a curative approach to a focus on the quality of the remaining days, weeks, or months.
Has your pet been given a terminal diagnosis, such as an incurable form of cancer? Pet owners often feel abandoned when they reach the point where they no longer wish to pursue invasive treatment options. That is exactly where the magic of palliative care begins: What can we do to promote environmental changes, alternative therapies, and treatment methods that have few side effects, cause minimal stress, and improve quality of life? How do I measure quality of life, and how do I know when it becomes inadequate? How can I avoid emergency veterinary care and hospitalization and learn to handle crises myself at home instead? How can I prepare myself and my beloved pet—physically, emotionally, and logistically—for saying goodbye? What kind of death do I want for my pet?
I'm one of the first veterinarians in Switzerland to have completed CHPV certification("certified hospice and palliative care veterinarian")with the IAAHPC (International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care) in 2026. In my palliative care practice, I take a holistic approach and, above all, always tailor my care to the needs of my patients and clients..
