Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What do I need to prepare for the house call appointment?
A few hours before the appointment, make sure that your pet is actually in the house and cannot leave it. In the case of very anxious animals, it may make sense to bring them into a room that offers no hiding places (under beds, behind cupboards, etc.) shortly before the appointment. If you are unsure about this, please contact me and I will be happy to advise.
If your pet loves a particular treat or toy, make sure you have it ready for the appointment.
Other than that, there are no requirements - I will bring all the necessary materials.
Is it possible to book a house call to somewhere outside of the serviced area?
Yes, this is possible within the cantons of Schwyz, Glarus, Zürich and Aargau.
However, outside the area covered, the fee for a house call is usually at least double the regular fee. Please contact me for a detailed cost estimate in your case.
Will you be on time?
I always do my best to be on time. However, delays may occur due to traffic. The stated appointment times are valid +/- 15 minutes. I will of course inform you in advance of any major delays. However, these occur very rarely 🙂
Do you treat rabbits and rodents?
I can also offer certain basic services (e.g. claw trimming) for rodents and rabbits. For medical emergencies involving these species, however, it is better to go to a clinic specially equipped for this purpose e.g. Exoticus Adliswil; Marigin Feusisberg).
Do house calls make sense for very fearful pets?
If your pet has already shown strong defensive reactions or at the vet, a home visit may not be ideal. This could lead to injuries, which must be avoided at all costs. If you are unsure whether a home visit is an option for your pet, please contact me! I will be happy to advise you.
If your pet is very anxious, premedication (anxiety-relieving medication that you administer at home before the visit) may make sense. I will be happy to advise you.
Please note that the house call fee always applies when I have traveled to your home - even if for some reason the treatment cannot take place. Of course, you will not be charged for the treatment itself if it cannot be carried out.
What are the terms of payment?
Please settle the amount due directly at the appointment. I accept EC cards, credit cards (except American Express) and TWINT payments.
Do you offer emergency services?
As I am a one-woman practice and have small children at home, I cannot guarantee fixed emergency service times / emergency telephone times. Whenever possible, I try to make it work for you and your pets, of course. Simply contact me by phone or via WhatsApp.
*Caution: In the event of life-threatening / intensive care emergencies (respiratory distress, trauma such as a car accident, suspected bloat/GDV, etc.), please head to a veterinary clinic near you immediately!
24-hour veterinary clinics in the area:
– Marigin Zentrum für Tiermedizin, Feusisberg
– ENNETSee Klinik für Kleintiere, Hünenberg
Can you do ultrasound/x-rays?
No, I am not equipped to take x-rays or perform ultrasound examinations. If you are unsure whether your pet's condition can only be diagnosed using these imaging techniques, please contact me. I will be happy to advise you on what makes sense.
Can you perform blood draws?
In principle, blood samples can be taken at home. I work with the reference laboratory IDEXX Switzerland, and the results of the blood tests are usually available the next working day (excluding special tests).
However, depending on the animal's temperament, it may not be possible to take a blood sample safely at home. If you are unsure about this, please contact me. I will be happy to advise you.
Do you perform anasthesia at home?
No. I am of the opinion that anesthesia at home no longer meets the standard of care, as life-saving intervention is not possible in the event of anesthetic incidents. If your pet requires anesthesia for a specific treatment, I will be happy to refer you to a small animal practice equipped for this purpose.
